I probably won't vote.
Yeah, @marcolanz, "nominally better than Trump" is not very exciting or compelling. Biden's friend Obama built the concentration camps, increased deportations, and didn't close Guantanamo. I highly doubt Biden would deviate from Trump's path.
Besides, right now Trump, evil as he is, has a lower body count than Biden. Biden championed the Iraq War, was one of the people salivating over the war even before 9/11 gave the neocons their excuse to start a forever war in the Middle East, and has blood on his hands. I'm close to making a leftist case for voting Trump, except I think the only moral thing to do in terms of voting is vote third party or not at all in the upcoming election.
This is true, but not everybody will change things.
everyone could be better than Trump xD
Corruption is my middle name…and whatever rhymes with eloquent.
Good on you. Bush was nakedly evil, but Kerry was an awful candidate. I remember yelling at the TV when I was a kid because I was so frustrated they chose to run him of all people.
Funnily enough, when I told my therapist this story he was surprised and said that Kerry was fairly personable compared to the last candidate they'd run, Al Gore.
What the hell is with the DNC choosing the most boring candidates time and time again? Even for Obama, it seemed like they opposed him at first because it was Hillary's turn to run.
I voted Green in 2004
Still could happen.
Oh god, I saw some major lib-brain post the other day about how Hillary could still become President if Biden picks her for VP, because they would be an unstoppable duo. And then when they sweep the nation and ride to victory, Biden would retire due to his age and let her rule.
It was so disgusting I thought it was satire, but the poster was completely sincere.
I get the sentiment, but I'm trying to encourage everyone who wanted to vote for Bernie to vote for Howie Hopkins of the Green Party instead. If the Green Party can get 5% of the vote this election, they'll qualify for FEC funding and become a more viable third party. Given that this could be the election which breaks the Democratic Party, it seems tactically sound for all the democratic socialists, socialists, anarchists, etc. to try making the Green Party the new viable socialist party. It's clear at this point that we cannot reform the Democratic Party from the inside.
I don't really believe we have the time for electoralism, and we're going to have to go with massive civil unrest in the next year or two instead, but the relatively simple act of voting for the Greens in the general is basically hedging our bets. It can't replace other work, but all it really takes is filling out a few forms online to get a mail in ballot and then mailing that in.
I don't think he'll even make it to the first year tbh.
Can't win if you don't agree to sell out your principles.
Bernie did put up a good fight.
He could be better than Trump
I agree. I'm not voting in 2020.
They definitely were, yeah. God forbid we get a candidate who actually helps people.
The Democratic Party machinery just chews up and wastes progressive energy, like a dashpot. I dread seeing what it will do to AOC. Like I said, I'm ready for a general strike and in the meantime I hope the Democratic Party dies off this election so a proper socialist party can fill the void.
There's a good video in a/Election2020 about it. The guy basically is saying the democratic candidates all were strategizing against Bernie.
My take is that Biden became the nominee because the DNC decided to go with name recognition, and he was a sacred cow nobody could criticize without seeming "mean". In part, I think that's due to Joe's dopey demeanor, and in part I think the 2012 Obama Biden memes really cemented this false image he'd cultivated of being a decent, down to earth average joe. Remember Julian Castro got scolded for pointing out that Biden was contradicting himself. Castro was right, but he took a hit in the polls for being "too mean". So nobody could attack Biden without being attacked by the media.
And the media, the FUCKING media, manufactured consent. They manufactured a consensus against Bernie, and manufactured a consensus that the others -- all the milquetoast centrist candidates -- were "electable". They set it up so that anyone who wasn't Bernie would get the
Propaganda is powerful. If the media had united around Bernie Sanders, not only would he have ended up being the nominee, liberals in general would have come over to loving him. But because the most powerful propaganda outlets chose first Not-Bernie, and second Joe Biden, here we are.
I'm probably voting for Howie Hopkins of the Green Party this year, and other than that I'm going to do what I can to prepare for more tangible struggle. We need a goddamn general strike.
